The 260-square-kilometre Paparoa gold prospect, located approximately 35 kilometres southwest of Reefton and 15 kilometers north of Greymouth, is immediately to the west the prolific Reefton gold field, where historic production is reported to be in excess of 10 million ounces of placer gold and two million ounces of lode gold. Paparoa also has potential for intrusion-related gold mineralization.
The Paparoa area contains a number of historic mines including the Croesus gold mine, and the Moonlight Crrek area, which is in the center of the project, is where two of the largest nuggets found in New Zealand, one of 79 ounces and one of 76 ounces. Mineralization consists of high grade gold in veins.
